Job Description – Underwriting Officer (Credit Insurance)

Job summary

The Underwriting Officer plays a key role in the analysis and management of the financial risk of clients and prospects of our insured companies. They assess the creditworthiness of debtors, challenge insurers’ underwriting decisions, and help ensure optimal coverage while controlling the overall portfolio risk exposure. As a key interface between insurers and clients, they actively contribute to Fibus’ customer risk management strategy.

Key responsibilities

1. Risk analysis and management

  • Assess the creditworthiness of debtors based on detailed financial analysis (balance sheets, ratios, economic trends)
  • Challenge restrictive insurer decisions to maximise coverage levels
  • Continuously monitor credit limits and adjust them according to financial or sector developments
  • Work closely with Account Managers and Brokers/Consultants to align coverage with clients’ operational needs
  • Provide clear and well-structured explanations to clients regarding underwriting/arbitration decisions

2. Client support and advisory

  • Actively participate in arbitration meetings with clients to present analyses and defend proposed positions
  • Advise insured clients on strategic management of their debtor portfolios, including arbitration between named and non-named coverage

3. Monitoring and reporting

  • Conduct economic, sectoral, and geographic monitoring to anticipate emerging risks
  • Produce reporting on overall exposure, coverage rates, and arbitration outcomes
  • Propose strategic adjustments based on observed trends
  • Track and analyse success rates of underwriting challenges and limit increase requests

4. Cross-functional projects

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of analytical tools (SAPIO, ARI, internal reporting systems) and internal processes
  • Provide analytical support to factoring consultants for credit committee preparation

  • Number of underwriting challenges and success rate
  • Additional credit limits obtained
  • Overall coverage rate across client portfolios
  • Number and quality of arbitration meetings

Required skills

  • Strong analytical mindset with a high level of numerical literacy
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills in French and English
  • Ability to clearly explain and present complex analyses
  • Capacity to work under tight deadlines and prioritise effectively
  • Collaborative mindset and strong team-oriented approach
